Alice (Jenkins) Smith 91 of Jersey City, NJ departed this life on April 11, 2012 at the Jersey City Medical Center. She fought a good long fight, but the Lord called her home. Alice Jenkins was born Dec. 28, 1920 in Gifford, South Carolina. The oldest of seven siblings, she is the daughter of the late Johnny Jenkins and Pearl (Williams) Jenkins. Alice was educated in the South Carolina school system. Alice, a hard worker held a variety of jobs but her time at Meadowview Hospital where she worked for thirty years. Very outspoken, Alice always had a wisecrack or funny joke to share. Alice met and married Wallie Smith and had five children: Sidney, Nettie, Albert, Mamie and Eloise all of Jersey City, NJ. Alice leaves to cherish her memory one son Sidney Jenkins and two daughters Mamie (Kevin) Harris-Leftwich and Eloise Smith, one sister Edna Bassett and one brother Otis Jenkins, one son-in-law Wilbur, twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, seven great great-grandchildren and one great great great-grandchild, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. Alice is preceded in death by her husband Wallie, two children Albert and Nettie, two sisters Mary and Vester and two brothers Charlie and John and two grandchildren Robert Lee and Mary.
