Obituary

Archie Gilchrist Sr. was born on June 16, 1926 to the late Nelson Gilchrist and Jenniebell Williams Gilchrist of Maxton, North Carolina. He was the forth of nine children. Archie accepted Christ in his life at an early age and was a member of Wilson Presbyterian Chapel in Maxton, North Carolina. Once arriving in Jersey City he served as a Deacon at Rehoboth Apostolic Church, Inc were the late Elder Johnson served as pastor. Archie was married to Doreatha Galbreath September 9, 1951. To this union seven beautiful gifts were born: Archie Jr., Lawreatha, Randolph, John, Jerome, Christine, and Darlene. Archie moved to Jersey City with his wife and his first three children. He worked for more than 30 years for Tailor Kitchens in Jersey City, New Jersey. He loved his family and would walk to and from work every day. Archie was predeceased by his brothers Hector, Linwood, Frank, Martin, and Leroy. He was also predeceased by his sister Lizzie Mae Southerland. Archie leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife Doreatha; seven children, Archie Jr. of Stockton, California; Lawreatha of Jersey City, N.J.; Randolph Sr. of Hillside, New Jersey; John, Jerome, Christine and Darlene all of Jersey City, N.J. One daughter in law Cassandra Gilchrist. Fifteen grandchildren; Maurice, Randolph Jr.Reginald, David, Candis, Carlos, Marquis, Jordon, Surreatha, Diamond, Alphonso, Christopher, Alvonte, Star and Michael. One brother Ervin Gilchrist, of Lumberton, North Carolina; one sister Christine Mabry of Pfafftown, N.C., Lena B. Pittman, Hartlee Haywood, Mary Edith Robinson, Mary Galbreath, Pearl Galbreath and Lee Bertha Galbreath, all of North Carolina, two brother in laws John Haywood, and Willie Lee Galbreath, both of North Carolina, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren, and friends.
