Christine W. Rivers , one of Jersey City's oldest residents passed at the age of 103 on April 2nd, 2022 peacefully in her home. Originally from Grand Island, Florida, she relocated to New Jersey in the 1940s with her late husband Solomon L. Rivers Sr., and four children-- daughter Edith, and sons Solomon Jr., James, and Charles. A family of service, her husband served during WWII and sons served in Vietnam while she was hired at Western Electric in Kearny, NJ until her retirement 37 years later. Born in 1918, Christine was witness to the progress of American History: from the Jim Crow Era and Women's Suffrage to the first Black President and first Black female Vice President. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Christine's warm heart, southern cooking, sharp wit, detailed stories, dedication to her faith and generous spirit will be greatly missed.
