                                                                  David R Hatchett A MAN OF MANY HATS

David R Hatchett was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on January 21, 1941 to the late Gladys and Ralph Hatchett.On Wednesday, August 19, 2026 the lord in his infinite wisdom, reached down and plucked one of his most precious flowers, David R Hatchett. He saw that his child had completed all that was assigned to him on this side of Jordan and called him from labor to reward.David was educated in the Jersey City Public School System. A graduate of Snyder High School and later received his Master of Arts degree from Montclair State College. David has received innumerable awards and honors including recognition as the Parade Chairman of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Scholarship Committee, Master Addiction Counselor and so many other achievements. He was a man of many talents except dancing.David was employed with the Hudson County Department of Corrections for over 20 years until he retired. He was a man of conviction, courage and caring. As the Program Administrator he developed programs designed to assist inmates with the understanding of personal attainable goals. He coordinated a variety of community-based educational and social service organizations, and acted as a liaison with the Correctional Center Community Agency.David was a man of GOD and served him well. He was a man of character, loyalty and strength and he loved the Lord. He did all he could as long as he could. David was a compassionate and considerate man with a good sense of humor and a zest for life. He led by example, and he will never be forgotten, but forever missed.David leaves to cherish his memories: His loving wife of 25 years Ernestine Cook-Hatchett, his sister Dorothy Menter of Jersey City, brother Jerry Hatchett (Coleen) of Smyrna Delaware, his children David Jr. (Christine) and Adrian Clinton, Tamika Cook and Khadeeja Cook and his bonus children Steven Mays and Ronald Terry. Grandchildren Shanae, D’Vesha (Elias),David Ill, Da’Vihonna, Louis,LaShawn, Nyasia and Malachi. Great-Grandchildren James and Jamiir. Brother in-law Robbie Mouzon (Betty) Columbia, South Carolina, Eugene Cook of Philadelphia, Pa. and Earl Cook of Jersey City. Sister in-law Charlene Hargrove of Wilmington North Carolina. Also, left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving friends and his Mauzon Brothers.A special thank you to our right- hand crew, George Dixon (Rooster), Tracy Dixon and my phenomenal neighbor/sister Juanita Ruff.


He is preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Ralph Hatchett; siblings: Ralph, Elnora, Anna, Edward and Joan.
