We pause to hold the loving memory of one so dear. Her acts of kindness will always be remembered. Many hearts celebrate her passing into God's care on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the Jersey City Medical Center. Elaine Dowdy, loving daughter of Roosevelt Stewart Sr. and Verdell Stewart was born July 31, 1953, in Jersey City, New Jersey at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital. Elaine's education was completed in the Jersey City Public Schools, and graduated from New Jersey City University (formally Jersey City State College). Elaine was employed by the Jersey City Public School (Alexander D. Sullivan, PS #30) until the time of her illness. She had just retired. Elaine is pre-deceased, in death by her parents, Roosevelt Sr., and Verdell Stewart, also a brother Roosevelt Jr. Elaine leaves one devoted daughter Nija Stewart, one grandson, Nile Herrera, four sisters, Sandra Moorman, Lorraine Singletary, Sharon Stewart and Delores Salmond of South Carolina. One brother James Stewart. Two sisters-in-law, Inez Stewart and Robin Stewart. Two brothers-in-law Richard Singletary and Willie Salmond of South Carolina. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Those who really knew Elaine would know that she loved the Lord, they also knew that she loved her daughter Nija, and her new grandson Nile. If you truly knew her you would know that she enjoyed the music of James Brown, Anita Baker and Donald Lawrence. You would also know that she enjoyed watching the food network and duplicating the recipes. She was a terrific gourmet cook. If you really knew her, you would know that she was very fond of her two nephews that was "born on my birthday". If you knew Elaine you would know that she enjoyed her privacy or as she called it her "me time" and most of all she cherished her friends.
