Fred "Freddie" Richard Greene Sr ., Hudson County's oldest elected committee person, passed away at the age of 86, on November 2nd, peacefully in his sleep.

Freddie was well known in Jersey City as the proprietor of Freddie's Lounge on Monticello Ave., 33rd Degree Mason and a football coach for the Dept. of Recreation. As an activist in his community, he joined the fight against homelessness, marched with Malcolm X and Brother Shabazz, and Jersey City's fight against AIDS.

Freddie was employed by the Jersey City Department of Health, the Department of Recreation, and the Department of Public Works until his retirement.

Freddie was also a long time member of Calvary CME Church in Jersey City.

Freddie is preceded by his parents, Bernard and Pearl, first wife Edith, sons Douglas and Shawn, daughter Dawn, and sisters Bernice and Viola.

He is survived by his wife Erma, daughters Valerie, Kristina, and Rhonda, and son Fred Jr., as well as Tristen and Briana, and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
