George H. Surles a resident of Jersey City passed away April 8, 2020 at the age of 94. Born in Union Springs, Alabama, George lived in Jersey City since the age of 16. He worked various jobs during his life. George was a friendly person and met many people and made many friends. He loved to go fishing, cooking, and spending time with his friends and family. He was affectionately known as Pop. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church for many years. George is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Olivia (Goodson) and children Katleen Watt, Carolyn Byrd (Troy). Grandchildren, Antonia Lee, Gerald Lee, Sr. (Shonder) and Lewis Lee (Caroline). Four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Many other nieces, nephews, and friends. Special friends Carlton Haynes and James Robinson. Predeceased by his parents, seven brothers, and one sister. Even during times of social distancing, anyone who has suffered a loss deserves love and support more than ever before.
