Our strong and beloved Pop entered eternal rest on August 13, 2014. Born on June 23, 1919 in St. Charles, South Carolina, he was the youngest of 8 children, born to the late Mary [nee Bradley] and William Charles. In 1943, he married Charlotte McDonald, a blessed union that lasted almost 70 years. They migrated to Jersey City in 1943. He is survived by his 3 children; Joseph Jr. , Carol and James; 5 grandchildren: Dawn , Joel, Tiffani , Marcus and Aislynn; 5 great grandchildren: Aja, Donahue , Iman, Saneiya and Marissa; 1 great great grandson , Satoru Jr.; daughters-in-law, Michelle and Barbara; sisters in law, Evelyn Charles; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his wife and 7 siblings: Marion, Norwood, Hattie, Frank, Richmond, Olease and Russell. He was a member of Claremont Lafayette United Presbyterian Church from 1944 until his death, serving as Elder, Trustee and Deacon. He was also a member of the George E. Cannon Brotherhood, the Friendly Club, and he especially enjoyed working in the soup kitchen. He was also a past member of King Solomon Masonic Temple, P.H.A. He was employed by Al Turdo Scrap Metal Company for almost 50 years as a truck driver and crane operator. His hobbies included hunting, watching boxing and baseball, and keeping an immaculately clean and shiny car. "Loved his Buicks!"
