Joyce Oliver Brown, 69, born in Lugoff, South Carolina to the late Luther and Alice Mitchell, died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 23, 2011. Joyce was a loving wife, devoted mother, loyal friend and a constant caregiver to many. She took great joy in serving others no matter how great the task. With a compassionate heart, and open arms, she put the needs of others before herself. If you were hungry, she would feed you; if you needed a shoulder to cry on, her shoulder was available; if you needed words of encouragement, she would remind you of Jehovah's love. Joyce's lifelong desire was to please Jehovah by helping others. In 1983, Joyce returned to school and obtained her NJ State Nursing Assistant certification. She graduated with honors and over the next 10 years she worked in tandem as a private duty nursing assistant and for Meadowview Hospital until she became disabled. Over the years Joyce received copious visits and calls from the family members of the patients she cared for; it was evident that her commitment to caring for others was held with high regard. She leaves to cherish her memory a faithful and devoted husband, Marcellus Brown Sr., two sons, Marcellus Brown Jr., Boyce M. Brown (Sharifa Brown); three daughters, Lynn Thompson (Thompson) of Swainford, Germany, Loretta O. Brown-Johnson, and Alice M. Frazier (Alexander Frazier); two sisters, Luther Mae Cook of Sumter, South Carolina and Perlinda Hudson (Leroy Hudson) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
