Lowell James Long Sr. was born on May 6, 1934 in Louisville, Tennessee. He was raised in nearby Alcoa, Tennessee with his two older brothers Llewellyn and Rolland by their parents Rufus and Leone Long. Lowell departed this life when he answered the Lord's call to come home on April 13, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Lowell had a great childhood filled with lots of love and family. After receiving his education he joined the United States Army. PFC Long served in Korea as a Military Police Officer from 1954-1956 and was honorably discharged earning two service medals, one for good conduct and the other for National Defense Service. Lowell worked on the railroad as a Pullman Porter for several years. After the railroad he went on to work as a truck driver for the United States Postal Service where he retired after 32 years of service. Lowell is preceded in death by his parents Rufus and Leone Long, and his brother Llewellyn Long. He leaves to cherish his memory, loving Wife for 53 yrs Ida Long; three children Patricia Long-Wilbert, Lowell James Long Jr. and James Arnold Chavis; one Granddaughter, Danielle Wilbert; one Brother Rolland Long of Los Angeles, CA; one Aunt Hatha Hatley of Maryville, TN; three Sister-in-Law Nancy Wood (Tyree) of Chase City, VA; Dorothy Chavis of Trenton, NJ; Mary Bullock (George) of Henderson, NC; special Brother-in-Law Roosevelt Chavis (Martha) of Jersey City, NJ and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; two adopted sons Gino Cole and Gregory Lee.
