Obituary

Margaret was born in Jersey City, NJ on November 21st, 1936, to Mary L. Mayo-Brown and Clarence Leon Brown, Sr. who both preceded her in death. She received her formal education from Jersey City Public School. Margaret worked at Jersey Medical Center in an administrative capacity for over thirty years. During this time she excelled at her job while making many lifelong friends along the way. After retiring from Jersey City Medical Center, margaret then became employed by the County of Hudson at Meadowview Psychiatric Hospital in Secaucus, NJ, in the role of Ombudsman. Margaret was known for being a fair, yet strong and dedicated advocate for the patients and their families. Margaret was notorious for her belief in giving back to the community; she exemplified service to her fellow man. Margaret loved politics and was highly regarded in the Hudson County Political community. Margaret was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for her dedication to serving the community. She belonged to numerous civic organizations and associations. She was previously the Committee Woman in Ward E, after moving from Ward F where she had been Ward Leader and Committee Woman for many years. Margaret was the co-founder of the Black Democratic Women of Hudson County; an Executive Board member of the North Jersey Chapter of the National Action Network; a former Board Member of the Girl Scouts of America, Jersey City Chapter; as well as the Immediate past President of the Tenant Association of Paulus Hook Towers, and the Organizer of the Senior and Disabled group of Paulus Hook Towers. Margaret was deeply spiritual and dedicated to her Catholic faith. She loved to celebrate ALL holidays and was known for her "Happy Birthday Jesus" cake every Christmas. An aficionada of Fine Arts; she enjoyed painting, jewelry making and poetry; she especially adored the works of Maya Angelou. Margaret also loved to shop and one of her favorite pastimes was perusing QVC and HSN. Margaret loved spending time with her family and friends. She had an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile, but was famous for being extremely focused and organized when it came time to get to work. God had an opening for a special angel so He called our lovely Margaret home on April 25th, 2013. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory three siblings. Elaine Carney, William J. Brown and Bernard Brown. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. Margaret is predeceased by three siblings; Willie Ruth Brown-Sturdivant, Clarence Brown Jr. and Peggy Brown. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Margaret Brown.
