Obituary

" have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." (II Timothy 4:7) Margie Smith returned to her heavenly father on July 3, 2015. Her devotion to family, strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends provided her with peace. Margie Smith was born on January 3, 1939 in South Carolina to the late Reverend Wiley LaBoo, Sr. and Ella Louise Wells LaBoo. She was a devoted member of the Jersey City Deliverance Temple, and also served as one of the Mothers to the congregation at large. As a matriarch of the family, she was known for giving spirit and encouraging words. She had a servant's heart touching the lives of everyone she came in contact with and leading by example. Family and friends were Margie's passion and delight. To know Margie was to love her; she exhibited the true qualities of strength and devotion to God and family above all. She possessed a beautiful and contagious smile that could warm your soul. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the hearts of many family and community members. She was a loving mother to all she came in contact with and was affectionately known by many as "mommy/mama". She will be remembered by her strong faith in God, her infectious smile, and her unbreakable spirit. Margie was blessed with a large and loving family. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Houston Smith; sons, Anthony Harris, Elliott Harris, David Harris and Steven Harris; daughters, Yvonne Garlin (Fred Garlin), Willie Mae Featherston (David Featherson), Lisa Harris Benthall (Abdul Benthall), Paula Harris, and Bianca Thompson-Owen (Leon Owen III); the grandchildren she raised, Tiajuana Thompson, Marquita Smith (Tariff Smith), David Harris Jr., Angela Whitehead and Octavia Spencer; Siblings, Reverend James LaBoo, Levi Wells, Wiley LaBoo, Jr., Joseph LaBoo, Ella Louise Singletary, Dorothy Greene and Rose Odom; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her loving cat Molli.
