On Sunday April 17, 2011 The Lord dispatched an angel to pick a rose from HORBORVIEW NURSING HOME, for one of his magnificent bouquets. That rose was Mary Ann Bass-Terry; she was born on April 19, 1938 in Oxford, Granville County, North Carolina, to the late Isadora Allen-Edwards (Samuel T. Edwards) and Ernest Bass. Mary Ann received her education from the Jersey City School system. She graduated from Dickinson High School and received credits from Drake Business School and State College. Mary Ann gave her life to Christ at the age of 9, at Gospel Tabernacle COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop Charles H. Cotton, which is now Cotton Temple COGIC, Pastor, Elder Embria W. Sconiers. There she was President of the Junior Choir, Church Secretary and We Twelve Northern District also held various positions within the church. She was a very spiritual person who gave selflessly to her church, her family and her community having a special fondness for the youth. Mary Ann was married to Chapel Wiley Terry until his demise on August 5, 2005 Mary Ann worked for the City of Jersey City for 35 years. She started as a typist in the Mayor's office on July 10, 1967 from there she served in Housing Court, Central Judicial Processing Court, Central Booking and as a clerk in a number of Criminal Courts. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her mother Isadora Edwards, her father Samuel T. Edwards, Ernest Bass, Her sister Rebecca Vannette Edwards, her husband Chapel Terry, her God-fathers Elder Louis Mcleod and Bishop Charles H. Cotton, her best friend Bertha Judge. Mary Ann leaves to cherished her memories two sister, Mrs. Betty C. Chatmon-Cato (Norman), Mrs. Margaret C. Pleasant-Myers (Eben), one brother Jasper T. Edwards, Lucy Harley, Pat Sconiers, five nieces Cherly L. Robins, Crystal Edwards, Tanisha Johnson, Celeste Ferguson, Ebenee Myers; six nephews W. Charnez Chatmon, Carie Chatmon, Jermaine Pleasant, Andre Pleasant, Casey Chatmon and Antwoine Cato. A host of children that she loved as if they were her own, great nieces, nephews, anuts, uncles, cousins, church family & friends. God-mother Mo. Julia Mcleod.
