Obituary

Matilda Blonde Wilson Jiggetts, was born March 25, 1941 to Louida Wilson and John Rose of South Hill, Virginia and departed this life on Friday, March 20, 2020 in the Jersey City Medical Center RWJ Barnabus Hospital Jersey City, NJ. Matilda was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church of South Hill, Virginia. Sixty-one years ago, she met and married the love of her life Lawrence Jiggetts. This union was blessed with three children two sons, Quinton Wilson Jiggetts, Lawrence Wilson Jiggetts, and one daughter Shandra M. Wilson Jiggetts. Matlida continued her Christian walk and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Jersey City, NJ, under Pastors of Rev. Ernie L. Murray, and Rev. John H. McReynolds until her health changed in the late 90s. In 2013, Matilda re-dedicated her life to Christ and united with World Changers Church International/World Changers Church New York. Matilda was employed with Mattel Toy Company, Job Corp, and Summergraves and sons in the 1960s thru 1974. After leaving Summergraves she enrolled in New Jersey City University (formerly Jersey City State College). There she majored in elementary education graduating in 1978, Matilda was employed by Mary E. Wheeler School in Newark, NJ, next she was employed by the Jersey City Board of education for eighteen years. Matilda transitioned to Irvington Board of Education Public Schools for an additional ten years and later retired after she reached her ability to say farewell to her passion for educating her students that she felt all were her babies There she earned Teacher of the Year Award in 2005. Matilda will be missed by her family for her jokes, cooking and love for knowing all of the commercials and her witty encouragement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louida Wilson and John Rose, brothers John Albert and Lawrence; sisters Esther Liunis, Sarah, Virginia, Isabel, and Ana Lou. Matilda leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Lawrence Jiggetts, her devoted daughter and caretaker Shandra M. Wilson Jiggetts, sons Quinton W. Jiggetts, and Lawrence Wilson Jiggetts (Mary), granddaughter Shamier Yates, grandson Riomaine Branch, great-grandson Jayden Branch, her devoted sister-in-law and caretaker Lucille Jiggetts. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, and great nephews, other relatives and friends.
