Mrs. Naomi Sumter passed away on Thursday May 6, 2010 at Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey City, NJ. Born in Charleston, SC on May 17, 1931, she was the daughter of (the late) Rev. Joseph and Katherine Brown. Mrs. Sumter has been a resident of Jersey City for 51 years, actively involved as a member in Gethsemane Baptist Church, Ordained Missionary and the usher board. She is survived by her beloved husband, Henry Sumter; ten sons, Charles H. Sumter, Gary J. Sumter, Herlin Sumter, Henry A. Sumter, Riccardo F. Sumter, Ernest J. Sumter, Alvin B. Sumter, Joe Louis Johnson, and (the late) Rodney A. Sumter & Larry Brown; four daughters Callie A. Wright, Kathy V. Sumter, Stacey A. Sumter and (the late) Cynthia M. Sumter- Green. Loving sister of John Duncan, Curtis Duncan, and Stephen Brown and the late Rosa Brown; mother-in-law of Christopher Green, Shalome Johnson, Mary Sumter, and Yvette Sumter; caring step-mother of Martha Brown. Adored grandmother of thirty grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Also survived by many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a New Jersey Food Bank.
