Obituary

Our beloved "Mother Pearl" passed away on September 29, 2011 peacefully at her home in Spring Grove, VA with her loving daughter and son-in-law by her bedside. She was born in Jersey City on June 12, 1919, the second of two daughters of Ethel and Grantland Morgan. She was educated in the local public schools and also in an elementary school in Griffin, GA. As a young woman Pearl resided in New York City for years before returning to her native Jersey City where she lived for most of her long life. The last six years of her life were spent making friends in the Virginia countryside where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Pearl retired from the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital at Jersey City Medical Center where she worked for many years as a ward clerk. In her retirement years she assisted her husband P.L. Adams with his personal chauffeuring business. She was also actively involved with Union Street and West Bergen neighborhood clubs, senior groups, and Trinity Lutheran Church sponsored organizations. After the death of her husband, she moved to Unico Towers in downtown Jersey City where she continued to be involved with her church and senior groups. She never forgot a birthday and her thoughtfulness extended well beyond her immediate family to include her friends and colleagues as well. She celebrated life, loved to dance, and warmed your heart with her smile. She was always there for anyone who needed her, even if it was just a call to say she was thinking of you. Pearl is predeceased by her stepson, Wilson Adams and granddaughter Medina Jenkins Pearl is survived by her loving sister, Louise D. Copeland of Jersey City; her devoted daughter, F. Louise Diaz-Jenkins and her husband Joseph W. Jenkins of Spring Grove, VA; stepson Elliott "Skip" Adams and his wife Elaine of Plainfield; and loving grandchildren, Tia Sinclair-Bell and her husband Ronald of Monmouth County; William O. Perkins III and his wife Stephanie of Houston, TX; Grantlin Morgan Perkins of Sydney, Australia; Joyce Person Perkins of Bayonne and Khalil Jenkins of Pittsburg, PA. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends who will all miss Mother (Grandmother) Pearl.
