Pasor Alex W. Nelson Jr. ("Uncle Jr." and "Pop Nelson"), 79, passed away on Wednesday February 23, 2011, at the Atrium at Hamilton Park. Alex was the Pastor of the Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church and manager and lead vocalist of the Sensational Gospel Sons. His friendship, character, voice and great charm and good nature will be solely missed. Alex is survived by his devoted wife Mary L. Nelson, (1) son, Edward, (4) daughters, Audrey, Lois (John), Deborah and Jennifer (Aaron), (1) Adopted son, Derrick O'Neil, (1) Adopted Daughter Carolyn Stokes Lassiter, Twin Brother Howard, (4) sisters, Betty, Jean, Susan and Dorothy, (6) Brother, Bengey, Isadore, Addul, Harold, Henry and Julius, (1) Special Sis-in-law Clara Monroe, (10) grandchildren Chante (Ricky), Tyria, Shaquanda, Shana, Caren, Ronnel, John Jr., Aaron, Dayja and Ashli, (5) Greatgrands, Briana, Kayla, Ayana, Janay and Dorrell, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
