Obituary

Terrence Edward Thomas , affectionately known as "Terry" or "Tee", was born on November 29th, 1954, at Margaret Hague Hospital, in Jersey City. He was the eldest son of Stanley and Joan (Johnson) Thomas. Terrence entered his eternal rest on September 8th, 2022.

Terrence was raised in Lafayette Gardens. He graduated from Assumption B.V.M., in 1969, where he served as an altar boy. He boasted about being a boy scout and a football player for the Lafayette Lions Youth Team, who won the 1968 championship in Hollywood, FL. He graduated in 1973 from Lincoln High School where he ran cross country track and studied real estate at Strayer University.

Terrence was a diligent worker. He was a bus driver in Jersey City for the Central Avenue and Local bus lines, a postal worker, and a machine operator on several jobs. His longest held position was with the Newport News Redevelopment Housing Authority (NNRHA), where he worked as a Project Manager for over 24 years. He was also a Community Outreach Organizer, Public Relations Speaker, Fundraiser, a Notary Public, and a team builder, among many other positions. His favorite saying was, "I must stay busy" and "I am Forever Young." He was employed up until the time of his passing.

Terrence served in the United States Air Force from September 1980 through February 1993. He received numerous medals and citations while serving overseas at Aviano Air Force Base, in Aviano, Italy. He served at Lubbock, Texas, and at Hampton and Newport News, Virginia. He remained in Newport News, Virginia where he met and married the late Loribeth Garnette. Following his retirement, he returned to Jersey City to be closer to his family.

Terrence was an avid jazz lover and often attended jazz concerts in various states. He was a DJ at WWRL. His love for all types of music was demonstrated by his album collection and record player, which he covered with scarves he brought over from Italy. Terrence also liked to work on cars; a skill he learned by watching other mechanics.

Terrence was a great conversationalist and told many amazing stories about his adventures in life. He was a devoted and true #1 Jets fan. He was still waiting for the Jets to win the Super Bowl. At the beginning of every football season, he was famous for saying the "Jets are going to the Super Bowl," it was a running joke every season. Terrence's personality was always exuberant, and he was always upbeat.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Joan Thomas.

Terrence leaves to cherish his memories his brother, Rodney Thomas; his sisters, Robin Thomas-Naarden, Tracey Thomas-Burroughs; brothers-in-law, Laurence Naarden and Michael Burroughs; nephews, Jamar and Jovahn Thomas; nieces, Jocelyn and Vanessa Naarden; great-niece, Taliyah Thomas; great-nephew, Jaelen Thomas; his aunt, Josephine ("Aunt Jo") Thomas; and his special friend, Lenette Chapman; along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.
