Obituary

Thelma Shuler Reid of Jersey City, NJ, age 85, was called home peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Peace Care St. Josephs Nursing Care in Jersey City, New Jersey. Thelma, daughter of the late Benjamin Shuler and Marie Williams was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. After the death of her mother, her father married Ida Stevens who would later bring Thelma and her siblings to Jersey City. Thelma received her education from the public school system in Jersey City. She married Harry B. Reid and from this union two daughters were born: Yvonne (Myers) and Harriet (Williams) who she loved dearly. All preceded Thelma in death. She worked many years in the textile industry before retiring. Thelma was a member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church . She was actively involved in many ministries until her health began to fail. A gentle, loving and caring person who will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memories: one devoted sister, Catherine Kelly; one brother in law Walter (Carl) Reid (Audrey); three loving grandchildren, Bonita L. Myers, Kenneth A. Reid and Ja'mar M. McNeil; eight great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Thelma is preceded in death by three sisters - Esther Mack, Magrissa Fogle and Pernetha Solomon; three brothers- Alfonso, Benjamin and Samuel Shuler; two great-great grandchildren: Jeremiah and Milan.
