Longtime Jersey City resident and U.S. Navy veteran Thomas Andrew Wigfall, Sr. entered a state of eternal rest on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at age 93. The youngest of six children: Rufus, Ethel (Byrd), Isaac, Luthern and Samuel, born to Anna Moriah (Smalls) and Robert Wigfall on April 27, 1926 at Margaret Hague Medical Center in Jersey City, NJ. He attended P.S. #14 and Snyder High School, enlisting in the U.S. Navy and stationed in San Diego, California during World War II. In 1944, he married Lily Mae (Berry) until her passing in 1976. Tom found companionship again when he married Elizabeth (Dingle) until her passing in 2010. Tom worked at Maxwell House in Hoboken NJ as a senior production operator from 1958 until his retirement. He served his community as Bayview Avenue block captain during the terms of four different mayors, and was an active and faithful member of Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ (Cotton Temple) since 1959. He served as Head Trustee, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Church Sexton, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Mens Chorus, and teacher for Young People Willing Workers (Y.P.W.W.) group. Tom was predeceased in death by his eldest daughter Celestine Wigfall Patterson and her daughter Samantha Patterson-Wolfe; leaves to cherish his memory children Thomas Jr., Paula Wigfall Smith, Eric, Karen, Gertrude, Joseph and Curtis; eighteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, extended and church family.
