In Loving Memory of Timothy John Smith
May 20, 1970 – June 20, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Timothy John Smith, affectionately known to many as "Tahid," of Paterson, New Jersey, who peacefully departed this life on June 20, 2026, at the age of 56.
Born on May 20, 1970, in Hudson County, New Jersey, Timothy lived a life centered on family, love, and the relationships he built throughout
the years. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a cherished brother, uncle, and friend. His presence brought comfort, his laughter brought joy, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Timothy was preceded in death by his loving parents, John Smith and Sandra Smith; his brother, Bernard Smith; and his sister, Annette Smith. Though they welcomed him home, his absence leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who remain.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Mary Chege, who shared in his life's journey with love and commitment. He was a proud and loving father to Yashika Heard, Sharmaine Heard, Kawauta Heard, and Timothy Smith Jr., each of whom carried a special place in his heart. Nothing brought Timothy greater joy than his grandchildren, Emanuel ("Junior") and Zain, whose smiles and laughter filled him with pride and happiness. His love for them was unconditional, and the memories they created together will be treasured forever.
He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Dwayne "Pee Wee" Smith, Peanut, and Peacan (twins); his sister, Bernice Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends. Timothy's life touched many people, and the kindness, strength, and love he shared will continue to inspire those who knew him. Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind—the conversations, the laughter, the lessons, and the countless moments that made him so deeply loved. While his time with us was far too short, his legacy lives on through his family and all those whose lives he touched.
As we say goodbye, we remember not only the day we lost him, but the many years we were blessed to have him with us. His love remains our greatest gift, and his memory will forever be carried in our hearts.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
