William Green, Jr. passed away September 17th, 2025 at the age of 87 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  Born February 17, 1938 in Chatham, Virginia to the late William Green and the late Hazel Coleman. He often told stories of a childhood filled with the love of his grandmother, cousins and his younger siblings, the late Printus Robert Green and the late Hazel Lee Turner.

Following his primary and secondary education, William enlisted in the United States Army, where he served more than 3 years.  He earned Good Conduct and National Defense Service medals before being honorably discharged in 1956.  Shortly after his time in the Army came to a close William moved north to New Jersey, the state he would call home for the remainder of his days.  After getting settled in Jersey City, William would marry his childhood sweetheart, Goldie Scruggs on August 27th, 1959. The two remained married for 62 years until her passing in 2021.

William is survived by his four children, William Bryant, Sandra, Kenneth and Sue Cheryl. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, John Paul, Marquis, Kendra, Nikole, Kenneth, Rashad, Rashida, Maurice, Jasmine and Shayla as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, September 24th from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM at Watson Mortuary Service at 26 Gifford Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey. Another viewing will be held Friday, September 26th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday, September 27th from 11:00 PM to noon at Howerton Funeral Home in Chatham, Virginia. A graveside Homegoing service will be held Saturday, September 27th at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham, Virginia.
